In 2024, 77% of US individuals were offered online access to their medical records, up from 42% in 2014. Those who use portals are using them more: 34% logged in six or more times in the year, up from 15% in 2019.

The fragmentation problem

59% of individuals had more than one patient portal in 2024. Each hospital, clinic and laboratory may offer its own login, which leaves the patient to assemble their own record.

Write for the person

Patients usually want something simple: when is my appointment, what does this result mean, what should I do next? Plain explanations, with an easy route to ask a question, change how information is received.

Be there on every screen

A phone suits reminders and quick checks. A larger screen suits reading documents, comparing results and helping a parent. Offer both, with one record behind them.

Earn the second visit

Reminders and timely notifications give patients a reason to return. The aim is a continuing relationship between appointments, not one more login to remember.
